who and what is god'z gurlz?
In 2010, God’z Gurlz founder, Lisa Maki, was prompted to start a Bible-based online magazine that caters to women’s issues such as managing emotions, marriage, parenthood, business, profession, education, relationships, health, finances, and other related concerns. Instead of doing it on her own, as her blog, she decided to invite fellow writers to contribute to the web magazine. She also networked with other similar magazines and exchanged articles with them.
God’z Gurlz then became not only a place where women can go to for reading and meditation but for counseling as well. It also became a place where women Christian artists, authors, and entrepreneurs were featured.
God’z Gurlz grew bigger and faster than what Lisa was able to handle. Pretty soon she was bombarded with articles from different contributors and emails from counselees. With so many other responsibilities to juggle and not many hands on deck, Lisa decided to put a halt to the web magazine. She stopped accepting articles from writers but still retained the magazine.
Being the writer that she is, Lisa continued writing. What she didn’t realize was what she thought was the end of God’z Gurlz was only its beginning. That was when she decided to continue with God’z Gurlz but with a different twist to it.
The new God’z Gurlz still has the same thrust that it had before – to write Bible-based articles that address women’s needs, wants, dreams, desires, hurts, and pains. However, the areas of focus of this web magazine are the following: Heart issues or emotions, Marriage and Relationships, and Torah teaching. There will be no other writer than its founder, which makes this more of a blog than a web magazine.
