ROSH HASHANA
Rosh Hashanah (head of the year) or Feast of Trumpets is the Jewish New Year. It starts on September 24 this year (2014), at sundown, and is celebrated on the first two days of Tishrei*. This 5th feast of the Lord was instituted by Moses at Sinai approximately 3,500 years ago. On this awesome day, all accounts between YHVH-God and His covenant people are settled. It is also on this day that the jubilee year is announced.
The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the Shofar, the ram’s horn, which also represents the trumpet blast of the people’s coronation of their king. Other than this, the cry of the shofar is also a call to repentance. This feast serves as the first of the “Ten Days of Repentance” which culminate in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. It is during these ten days when God is calling His people to return to Him, their first love, and repent of their unfaithfulness. God is giving this chance, and it may not be here forever. For there will come a day when there will be no doors open for repentance anymore.
One important thing to remember is that the Feast of Trumpets is the first of the three, yet to be fulfilled, Fall Feasts of Israel. These Fall Feasts relate to Kingdom issues rather than High Priestly matters that we saw Jesus/Yeshua fulfill in the spring feasts on His first coming 2,000 years ago.
On a future Rosh Hoshanah, on the new moon of Tishrei, the shofars will begin to sound on a day like no other. The ultimate epic future Feast of Trumpets will be erupting into holy history. This will be an awesome day of mixed celebration and alarm. All of God's covenant people will be 'called out' to solemn assembly. They will be "called out" into YHVH-God's new and updated 'ekklesia', His new 'congregation', His new 'church'.
On the future Rosh Hashanah, a series of Trumpet blasts are blown to announce the arrival of Yeshua, the King of all Kings, for judgment of the people of the earth. However, this judgment is not for all people, only for the righteous whose names are written in the Book of life. The righteous are sinless and blameless before God, because of the blood of the Lamb. Their judgment is then not a punishment judgment, but a reward judgment. The rest of the people will not be judged on Rosh Hashanah, but on the second judgment, which is on Yom Kippur.
*Although it is the seventh month of the Jewish calendar, Tishrei feels like the beginning of a new year. Tishrei is the month richest with Jewish holidays.
