DO YOU SEE ME?
DECEMBER 2012
by Lisa Maki
Look at me, what do you see?
Can you tell what goes on inside of me?
Do you hear the voice, making herself known,
Or do you see only the surface that is shown?
Do you know who I am what I think or feel?
Do you even understand my inner yearning to be real?
Sometimes I ask myself, “Who really am I”?
There are so many questions in my head that asks why.
This is an excerpt from my book, Unveil Me (http://unveilme.weebly.com/index.html). And this is how I’ve always felt as a teen, and even as an adult. How about you?
One thing I know is that there is always this desire in our hearts to make ourselves known to others ... to make them feel what we feel ... to make them see what wee see. It doesn’t matter what age you are. Women have always yearned to be known. This desire is the motivating factor behind her being in relationships. She longs to have someone who can understand her for who she really is.
Unfortunately, it is this desire to be seen for who and what she is that has also led to her demise. A teen girl for instance dresses up sexily to prove that she is already grown up ... that she is not a young kid anymore ... that she is more mature ... that she is wiser. A man sees her, gets attracted to her, and thinks that she is freely offering her body to him. He then approaches her and eventually she begins to trust him. She starts unveiling herself, for who she really is. She starts talking about her past, about her dreams. But the man only wants her body because that’s what he thought she was trying to give him. She then ends up having sex with him, thinking that he understands where she is coming from. Then the man disappears from the scene and the girl starts hurting.
Sounds familiar?
How many times have you ended up so frustrated just because you were trying your best to express yourself to someone and that person didn’t even have a clue as to what you were trying to say? Or how many times have you been misinterpreted for simply trying to make yourself known to another person?
Our desire to be recognized and accepted has led to our own hurts and frustrations. Why? Because we keep drawing from the wrong sources.
God was the One who placed this desire in our hearts to make ourselves known. He was the One who created us to be needy of love and attention. He was the One who made us highly emotional and sensitive. He made us, women, this way so that we will draw closer to Him. However, our enemy, the devil, distorted everything and until now he is trying to offer us fake and temporary solutions to fill this void inside of us.
This is the reason why women jump from one relationship to the next, and why some of them end up in lesbian relationships. They just want to be seen and understood for who they really are. But then, do they really know themselves? How can I expect someone to see me for who I am if I am not even sure of myself?
Not even the person closest to you can ever understand you the way you want to be understood. Nobody but your Creator knows you for who you really are. So stop putting your hopes on people. You will just get disappointed.
Honestly, you don’t even have a clue as to who you really are. The only way you can know yourself is through Jesus Christ. The more you get to know Him, the more you will understand who He created you to be.
Let God be the One to unveil you. Let Him be the One to reveal yourself to you. Let Him be the One to understand you. He knows you more than anybody else can know you.
Once you have built this relationship with Jesus, you will start becoming more secure of who you are. You wouldn’t even waste your time trying to make yourself known to others and revealing to them who you are. You will not even care about what other people think of you because what will matter most to you is God’s opinion of you.
